Ever wondered why Indoor Air Quality (IAQ) is such a big deal in HVAC design?

Ever wondered why Indoor Air Quality (IAQ) is such a big deal in HVAC design?
Indoor air quality directly affects health, comfort, and productivity. With most people spending the majority of their time indoors, clean air and proper ventilation are essential—not optional.
Why is IAQ important?
• Reduces allergens and airborne pollutants
• Improves comfort and productivity
• Supports health and infection control
• Enhances HVAC performance
ASHRAE standards that guide IAQ:
• ASHRAE 62.1 – Ventilation for commercial buildings
• ASHRAE 62.2 – Residential ventilation
• ASHRAE 55 – Thermal comfort conditions
What I learned:
Good HVAC design isn’t just about heating or cooling—it’s about delivering clean, fresh air the right way. Following ASHRAE standards helps create healthier, safer, and more efficient indoor spaces.
Small IAQ decisions make a big difference.
